How much will coverage cost in 2022?

The average cost of Marketplace coverage has decreased by 1.65% for 2022.

The American Rescue Plan Act increased Premium Tax Credits to lower the cost of monthly premiums and allowed for new subsidies for higher-income enrollees who did not qualify for subsidies in the past.  These enhanced subsidies began on April 1, 2021 and will continue through the plan year 2022.  To qualify for subsidies you must not be eligible for any employer-sponsored health plan.

What to consider when choosing a plan for 2022?

Where do you go for care?  Do your doctors or facilities accept all four insurer plans?  Each insurer maintains a list of covered doctors and facilities.  And, generally, there is no coverage for providers who are accepted.

What prescriptions do you take?  Each insurer has a list of covered prescription drugs, and the list can vary by insurer.  The cost of the prescription may vary by insurer and chosen plan.  For example, some plans offer drugs at a copayment, and others will cover the drug after the deductible amount has been satisfied.

What medical expenses do you anticipate in 2022?  Plan coverage varies, some plans require the member to satisfy the deductible amount before benefits are paid, others cover some services at the copayment amount.

Is Marketplace coverage right for me?  Maybe not for everyone and there are options for coverage outside of the Marketplace.  We can explain those options to you and help you make the right decision.

Some information we find helpful in finding the right coverage for you.

What do you anticipate your Modified Adjusted Gross income to be for 2022?  It may be helpful to look at your previous tax returns to anticipate the amount.  This information helps us determine if you are eligible for an Advanced Premium Tax Credit.  If your income changes after enrollment, don’t worry, you can update your estimated income with the Marketplace later.

Who are your doctors and medical facilities?  We will look for insurers that allow you to keep your doctors.

What medications are you taking?  Please have a list of medications for the family.  We look for insurers and plans with the best value when filling those prescriptions.
