COVID-19 At Home Test Kits

Beginning January 15th, 2022, most health insurance companies will cover FDA Authorized over-the-counter (OTC) COVID at-home test kits. Members do not need a prescription to receive the kits at no cost. An individual can receive up to eight OTC test kids every month. Should you elect a rapid test kit that includes two tests, that will count as two of the eight.

How is the test covered?

Each carrier has different procedures for coverage in place, so it’s essential to check with your carrier. Log into your member portal. If you don’t have a portal, create one. Look at the back of your insurance card for directions to the members portal.

At no upfront cost- Some insurance companies have contracted directly with pharmacies to distribute tests at no charge.

Reimbursement- Each carrier will allow members to submit receipts for reimbursements from most instore or online retailers. Be aware there will be limits of $24 per kit that will be eligible for a refund.

Federal Government- Has launched a website where each household receives a one-time shipment of four test kits shipped directly from. http://www.covidtests.gov/

Medicare Advantage Policy Holders- Must have a physician’s order to receive the OTC test kit as zero copays.
